KIF Conclusions and Energy Efficiency star projects
Noticia
We had the highest expectations regarding the KNX International Forum which took place last April in Madrid (Futurasmus KNX Group actively participated with our own booth). But, what should have been an international referent for the KNX standard market worldwide was unfortunately a mere regional congregation of Spanish KNX integrators. The lack of international visitors and exhibitors was a bit disappointing and some organizational deficiencies made the rest.

Anyway, there were also interesting conferences, like the applauded intervention from manufacturer Intesis, who talked about HVAC and saving methods.

But what we found especially interesting was the contribution of two private companies who shared their experiences in the field of Energy Efficiency and which we have extracted here:

Project: Hotel Condes de Barcelona

David Blanco Pérez from the company IJT S.L. presented at the KIF a very interesting project. They integrated the different systems (illumination, technical alarms, hot water supply, HVAC, pumps, tanks…) of the hotel Condes de Barcelona situated in the Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona. IJT achieved the main objective of the KNX integration which was to reduce the energy costs of the Hotel, even though the Hotel was expanded with another 56 suites, by up to 28% (corroborated by real invoices over the years 2007, 2008 and 2009). The energy savings was mainly achieved by the efficient control of the HVAC system by applying different modes and set-point temperatures depending on the usage of the rooms and outside temperatures.

Project: Heathrow T5

Maria La Chica from the English company ATL (Andromeda Telematics Limited) presented at the KIF the impressive 2006 KNX Award Project of the new Airport terminal, Heathrow T5. This is the Largest KNX Project and also the largest DALI lighting Project ever realized in the UK. The whole extension of the project included 2 major terminal buildings, the new flight control tower, major rail & road infrastructure, the energy centre, car parks, 120.000m sq of taxiway designed for A380 Super Jumbo.

The KNX Infrastructure includes 236 IP worlds, 910 KNX lines, 7.000 KNX devices, 64.000 DALI luminaries, lighting control, daylight dimming control, emergency lighting testing & monitoring, lamp failures, lamp hours energy calculation, control & monitoring of central batteries, LV monitoring, main plant monitoring, disabled WC alarms, lift & escalator monitoring / alarms, etc.

The most remarkable part of the presentation was the Final Conclusions: With a total CO2 emissions saving of 6,821 tons per year, a total cost saving of £1,362,498 saving per year, which leads to a final payback period of only 2.8 years for the whole project.

Please, contact us if you would like to receive more information about these remarkable projects.

As for the KNX International Forum, we wish them the best of lucks for the following editions.
